About me
Born in the heart of Mecklenburg I started researching for my ancestors at the age of 17.
Today, my family-tree has more than 2000 "leaves" spreading over three continents.
My family
While my father's side can be traced back in Mecklenburg up to the late 16th century, my mother's side came to this area after World War 2. However, I could "dig" her family's roots back to the late 18th century. I have a special interest in finding out not only dates, names and places but also how people lived.
The picture below shows my great-great-great-grandfathers family in the 1870s. Although only farmers they gained some wealth which put my ancestor in the position to buy his youngest son his own farm, to send the mid-born to the U.S. and left the family farm to the eldest. He also could afford three dowries for his daughters marrying prosperous husbands. And holding hands with his smiling wife speaks for themselves.
